Unlike the palettes of mainstream artists that hold the various shades and hues of paints, Hella Nohl's palette holds the various swirls of ink and wine. Stumbling onto the art of wine while on an expedition in Italy, she has since embarked on a journey of research and discovery of this different stroke, studying the different properties and effects of wines. Her paintings' surfaces are like wine, constantly changing and developing. With a focus on the vine itself, she has created a series of pieces, which she fondly names "Vine Writings". As the artist creates her paintings, the combination of both wine and ink, develop progressively into their own forms, lending their own rhythm and character to her art. |
